Hype or skincare essential!

Hyaluronic Acid~AKA hyaluronan

We have all been taught that acid should not go anywhere near anyone’s face but when it comes to Hyaluronic Acid you will want to make an exception.

This acid doesn’t burn or harm the skin and its form is very similar to a gel. Whilst its purpose is to basically hold moisture together so that there is a continuous flow of hydration. It may surprise you to know that your body produces this substance naturally and it resides in every cell. Despite this, it can be found in its greatest concentrations in the skin tissue. Furthermore, about 50% of the bodies Hyaluronic Acid is found in the skin and it can be found in both the underlying dermal areas as well as the top skin layer known as the epidermal.

When searching for products or ingredients to hydrate and relieve dry skin you may well have heard of Hyaluronic Acid. If you haven’t then you need to understand what increased quantities of this ingredient over and above what your body is already producing can do for you. Make no mistake that there is no hype and this ingredient should be an integral part of your skincare routine.

If you are wondering why, have a look at the graphic below and continue reading.

It’s Function

Its main function is to help retain water and keep your cells moist and well hydrated. In fact, dermatologists state that hyaluronic acid can help retain over 1,000 times its weight in water within the cells of the skin. What does this mean for you? It has heaps of great benefits, and moisturizing properties is just one of them.

If we already produce Hyaluronic Acid naturally, why do we need more?

Yes, our bodies naturally produce this continuous supply of Hyaluronic Acid. However, about 30% of it gets degraded and reduced in quality daily. Furthermore, as we get older, we produce less and less Hyaluronic Acid—unfortunately, that’s the time our skin needs it most.

So, that’s why we need to enhance our daily supply

How to Use

Hyaluronic Acid comes in a variety of forms but is typically found in serums and moisturisers, so it is not difficult to implement it into your daily skincare routine.

If you are going for a serum with Hyaluronic Acid, then use a moisturizer after 10-15 minutes.

This should help to seal in moisture and provide even more hydration for the HA to absorb. In fact, it doesn’t hurt to use a Hyaluronic Acid moisturizer on top of your HA serum, too.

The Benefits – Why Hyaluronic Acid is So Good for Your Skin!

Hyaluronic Acid is powerful. It has a ton of benefits that help create beautiful, healthy, glowing skin:

  • Hydration is the secret to a healthier and a more youthful skin free of wrinkles. Hyaluronic Acidgives you hydration in volume—the results are – supple skin. Hyaluronic Acid helps your skin look and feel healthier, especially as you age. Why? Once again because of that much needed hydration boost. Remember that hydration is one of the main ingredients of healthy wrinkle-free skin.
  • Reduces the visibility of crow’s feet, wrinkles & fine linesHyaluronic Acid assists in the protection of your skin, which means that it’s lubricated and being cared for. When the skin is moist it isn’t busy fighting for hydration—that means your cells are able to reproduce. Hyaluronic Acid won’t replace collagen and elastin, but it will help to tighten and enhance your face and give those fine lines the moisture they need.
  • Helps smooth out your complexionthis is especially beneficial if you have had to deal with unsightly acne or acne scars. No, Hyaluronic Acid can’t just make those scars disappear, but it can do a wonderful job of providing you with a smoother-looking face due to its tightening and hydrating abilities.
  • Prevents hyperpigmentation and age spots—Because Hyaluronic Acid promotes cell turnover, it can help reduce age spots and the forming of dark patches and discolouration of the skin associated with hyperpigmentation. When you pair hyaluronic acid with Vitamin C Serums and Vitamin C Boosters you will tend to get the best results.
  • Promotes skin health & clarity—you know how it goes with skin. When it’s fighting for hydration, it overcompensates to hydrate by producing oil, which can result in some seriously unclear complexions. That’s why it’s a huge misconception that oily or acne-prone skin doesn’t need hydration—in fact, they probably do! Hyaluronic Acid provides that boost of hydration that’s necessary to keep skin clear, doing its job, and miles away from any overcompensation efforts that could result in broken out skin.

Most of our products contain Hyaluronic Acid combined with other wonderful skin boosting ingredients but if you want to know more please do get in touch.
